Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Universal dial gauge bracket -VW 387-
t  Dial gauge
Procedure
–  Remove camshafts → Chapter.
–  Remove bucket tappets.
–  Fit camshafts in cylinder head without drive chain and secure with bearing caps 2 and 4.

–  Attach dial gauge with universal dial gauge bracket -VW 387- to cylinder head.
–  Press the camshaft that is to be checked against the dial gauge by hand.
–  Set dial gauge to “0”.
–  Press camshaft away from dial gauge.
–  Take reading:
  A15-0073
