Renewing subframe bushes
  Note
t  There are various different subframe versions. → Parts catalogue
t  Subframe with bonded rubber bushes in subframe/body mountings (all vehicles except Cabriolet). Bonded rubber bushes can be renewed.
t  Subframe with welded steel bushes instead of bonded rubber bushes in subframe/body mountings (Cabriolet models only). Steel bushes are not replaceable; subframe must be renewed if bushes are damaged.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Assembly tool -3291-
t  Puller -3351/1-
t  Puller -3351/4-
t  Removal tool -3372-
t  Removal tool -3372/1-
t  Removal tool -3372/2-
t  Thrust plate -30 - 205-
Subframe must be removed → Chapter in order to renew subframe bushes.
   
Removing bonded rubber bush
–  Saw off or cut off rubber bead of subframe bush as far as outer sleeve.

Apply corrosion protection if paint surface on subframe is damaged.

Removing rear bonded rubber bush
Make sure removal tool -3372- is properly seated and cannot tilt out of position.

Removing bonded rubber bush
All bonded rubber bushes on subframe are extracted using the same special tool.

Preparation for installing subframe bush
–  Set up removal tool -3372- and insert two shell sections -3372/2-.

Aligning bonded rubber bushes
The bonded rubber bushes must be aligned using a long square-section tube or a straight-edge.
A = 90° ± 5°
Always use jaw protectors when clamping subframe in vice.

Installing rear bonded rubber bush
Use lubricating oil G 294 421 A1 when pressing in bonded rubber bushes.
–  Pull in bush -A- until thrust piece -3372/1- is flush with upper edge of removal tool -3372-.
–  Lift off removal tool -3372- and two shell sections -3372/2-.

Installing rear bonded rubber bush
–  Insert two shell sections -3372/2- between bridge piece -3351/4- and subframe.
–  Pull in bush as far as the stop.
Apply corrosion protection if paint surface on subframe is damaged.

Installing front bonded rubber bush
Use lubricating oil G 294 421 A1 when pressing in bonded rubber bushes.
–  Insert two shell sections -3372/2- in tube -3372-.
–  Pull in bush -A- until thrust piece -3372/1- is flush with upper edge of removal tool -3372-.

Installing front bonded rubber bush
–  Lift removal tool -3372- and take out shell sections -3372/2-.
–  Replace bridge piece -3351/4 with thrust piece -3351/1- and then pull in bush as far as it will go.
Apply corrosion protection if paint surface on subframe is damaged.
