Removing
–  Remove wheel trim; on light-alloy wheels, pull off trim cap (use puller in vehicle tool kit).
→ Anchor
–  Remove hexagon bolt securing drive shaft (loosen only when vehicle is standing on wheels - accident risk).
–  Remove wheel.
–  Secure brake disc with one wheel bolt.
–  Detach ABS speed sensor wiring from bracket on wheel bearing housing.
   
Vehicles with HP-2 brake caliper
–  Unscrew hexagon bolt -2- and detach brake pipe bracket.
–  Remove bolts -1- for brake caliper and take off brake caliper.
–  Re-attach brake pipe bracket. Screw in and tighten hexagon bolt -2-.
–  Secure the brake caliper to the body so that the weight of the brake caliper does not bend or damage the brake line.
All vehicles (continued):
–  Detach brake caliper and secure to body so that weight of brake caliper does not stretch or damage brake hose or brake pipe.

–  Unscrew bolt -5- for ABS speed sensor.
–  Remove brake disc.

–  Remove bolts -arrows-.
–  Detach splash plate.

–  Loosen nut -1-, take out hexagon bolt and pull out both upper links -2- upwards.
Do not attempt to enlarge slots in wheel bearing housing using a chisel or similar.
–  Swing wheel bearing housing away to the side, and at the same time pull end of drive shaft out of wheel hub.
–  Tie up drive shaft to body with wire or similar.

–  Unscrew countersunk bolts -1-.
–  Take out wheel bearing unit.

Pressing inner bearing race off wheel hub
–  Fit splitter (e.g. Kukko 15-17) into annular groove -arrow- on inner bearing race and tighten spindle.

–  Press inner bearing race off wheel hub.
Lightweight wheel hub → Chapter

Pressing wheel hub into 82 mm Ø wheel bearing
–  When pressing in, the thrust pad -VW 511- must only bear against the inner race.

Installing
–  Insert wheel bearing unit in wheel bearing housing.
–  Screw in and tighten countersunk bolts -1- → Item.
–  Slide outer joint of drive shaft into wheel hub and tighten new hexagon bolt hand-tight.
t  Remove any remaining adhesive on thread of outer joint pin.

–  Fit joint pins of both upper links in wheel bearing housing and press down as far as possible by clamping with pliers -T40067-.

–  Install and tighten new bolt -1- and self-locking nut → Item.
–  Install ABS speed sensor.
–  Install brake disc and brake caliper → Brake system; Rep. Gr. 46.
–  Fit and secure wheel → Wheels and tyres; Rep. Gr.44.
–  Tighten hexagon bolt for drive shaft (only when vehicle is standing on its wheels - accident risk) → Anchor.
Wheel alignment must always be checked and adjusted if necessary using VW/Audi-approved equipment.
