Description
The navigation system RNS-JP3 consists of an operating unit with screen and the navigation computer in the centre console. A DVD and MD player is fitted behind the swivelling operating and display unit.
The RNS-JP3 determines the position of the vehicle on a map stored on a DVD by evaluating the vehicle speed signal and the data received via GPS and from a built-in gyro sensor.
The system uses this data to compute the direction travelled and the distance covered by the vehicle. These values are compared with the stored road network on the navigation DVD.
The position is continuously adapted while the vehicle is moving (dead reckoning). The accuracy of the position is enhanced by checking the plausibility of the signals. A correction is made in the navigation control unit if the calculated position is not on the stored road network.
