Removing
–  Remove steering column switch module → Chapter.
–  Unplug electrical connector at reader coil.
   
Vehicles with automatic gearbox:
–  Move selector lever to “P”.
–  Turn ignition key to “Ignition ON” position -arrow-.
–  Then lift interlock lever -1- slightly and pull locking cable -2- out of ignition lock housing.

All models:
  Note
To remove the lock cylinder the spare key without illumination and remote control function is needed, as removal is only possible using a key with a flat handle.
–  Turn spare key to ignition “ON” position, thus aligning recess in trim -arrow- with hole in ignition lock.

–  Insert a steel wire or pin (Ø approx. 1.5 mm) in hole -1- as far as it will go, at the same time pulling lock cylinder -2- with reader coil out of steering lock housing -3-.
  WARNING
The steering lock must not be operated without the lock cylinder, otherwise it would lock up completely. A locked-up steering lock must be renewed.

When renewing lock cylinder, note requirements for immobilizer reader coil → Electrical system; General information; Rep. Gr.96.

Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
–  Insert spare ignition key into lock cylinder and turn to ignition “on” position.
–  Re-insert steel wire/pin -1- in hole on end face as far as it will go.
–  Insert lock cylinder -2- with reader coil in steering lock housing -3-.
–  Then pull out steel wire and press in lock cylinder firmly until catch engages audibly.
–  Plug in electrical connector on immobilizer reader coil.
–  Install steering column switch module → Anchor.
Vehicles with automatic gearbox:
–  Turn ignition key to “Ignition ON” position.
–  Slide locking cable -2- into ignition lock housing until it engages audibly.
