Notes:

  • ◆ Observe environmental requirements for disposal.
  • ◆ The engine must not be started and the vehicle must not be towed if there is no ATF in the gearbox!

  • ◆ ATF filling system V.A.G 1924
  • ◆ Drip tray

Work sequence

  • ● Engine not running
  • ‒ → Secure reservoir of ATF filling system V.A.G 1924 at the highest possible point on the vehicle.
  • ‒ Raise vehicle.

  • ‒ Place container under the gearbox.
  • ‒ → Remove ATF inspection plug -3- and overflow pipe -2- (5 mm hexagon socket).
  • ‒ Drain ATF.
  • ‒ Screw overflow pipe -2- in again onto stop (tightening torque: 2 Nm).

  • ‒ → Lever off plug securing cap -arrow- with a screwdriver. The cap locking device will be destroyed, when doing this therefore always renew cap.
  • ‒ Pull plug out of filler pipe.

Filling up ATF

Note:

The ATF temperature must not be higher than 35 °C at the start of the filling procedure.

  • ‒ → Fill with ATF using V.A.G 1924, until ATF runs out of level hole -arrow-.
  • ‒ Shift selector lever into "P" position.
  • ‒ Start the engine.
  • ‒ With engine running, continue adding ATF until ATF comes out at inspection hole.
Warning!
If the ATF level is too high or too low it will adversely affect the operation of the gearbox.
  • ‒ With the engine idling, press the brake pedal and shift the selector lever through all the selector lever positions, leaving the selector lever 2 - 3 seconds in each position.
  • ‒ Shift selector lever into "P" position.
  • ‒ Check and top up ATF level =>from Page 37-60.

Note:

Observe all notes and test requirements as for "Checking ATF level".
