Fault table
Important:

◆ Listed in the following are all possible faults which are detected by the automatic gearbox control unit -J217 and displayed on VAS 5051 during fault memory interrogation.

◆ The fault table is arranged according to the 5-digit fault codes on the left.

◆ The content of the fault memory is retained until it is next erased, Erasing fault memory .

◆ If faults only occur intermittently or if fault memory is not erased after fault elimination, such faults are displayed for a specified period as being "sporadic faults" => Gearbox control unit fault recognition, Page 01-1.

◆ Do not immediately replace components indicated as being defective by VAS 5051, but rather: Start by checking wiring and connectors to these components in line with current flow diagram. Also use current flow diagram to check earth connections. This is particularly important if faults are output as being "sporadic".
