Removing and installing cylinder head
Checking compression pressure

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • ◆ Jointed spanner 3220
  • ◆ V.A.G 1763
  • ◆ V.A.G 1381/12

Test requirements:

  • ● Engine oil temperature at least 30 °C
  • ● Battery voltage at least 12.7 V

Test sequence

  • ‒ → Pull dipstick -1- out of guide tube.
  • ‒ Unclipcaps.
  • ‒ Remove nuts -arrows- and detach engine cover.
  • ‒ Remove insulation lying below.
  • ‒ Re-insert dipstick into guide tube.

  • ‒ → Unplug connector -2-.
  • ‒ Screw out bolt -3-.
  • ‒ Lift fuel filter out of holder and place aside together with connected fuel hoses.
  • ‒ Turn knurled screw -1- for centre connector anti-clockwise.
  • ‒ Detach centre connector.
  • ‒ Remove all glow plugs with jointed spanner 3220.
 
N15-0256
  • ‒ → Screw in adapter V.A.G 1381/12 in place of glow plugs.
  • ‒ Use compression tester V.A.G 1381 or V.A.G 1763 to check compression pressure.

Note:

How to use tester:

=> Operating instructions

  • ‒ Operate starter until no further increase in pressure is indicated by tester.

  • ‒ Fit glow plugs with jointed spanner 3220.
  • ‒ Interrogate and erase fault memory:

=> TDI fuel-injection and preheating system (4-cyl. pump/nozzle); Repair Group 01; Interrogate and erase fault memory

Note:

Unplugging connectors causes faults to be stored. Interrogate and if necessary erase fault memory after completing check.
