Removing and installing parts of exhaust system
Separating front and rear silencers
  • ◆ For individual replacement of front or rear silencers there is a marked point to be cut through at the connecting pipe.
  • ◆ The cutting point is marked with an indentation on the outside of the exhaust pipe.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary equipment required

  • ◆ V.A.G 1523 A

Vehicles with front wheel drive:

 
A26-0180
  • ‒ → Cut through exhaust pipe at right angles with body saw (e.g. V.A.G 1523) at position marked -arrow-.

  • ‒ When installing, position clamp centrally over saw cut.
 
A26-0181
    • ‒ → Installation position of clamp -1-: horizontal, with bolted connections facing rear => Fig.26-7
  • Stress-free alignment of exhaust system
  • Tighten bolted connections on clamp evenly to 40 Nm.

Vehicles with four-wheel drive:

 
A26-0193
  • ‒ → Cut through exhaust pipe at right angles with body saw (e.g. V.A.G 1523) at the positions marked -arrow-.

  • ‒ When installing, position clamp centrally over saw cut.

    • ‒ → Installation position of clamp -1-: horizontal, with bolted connections facing rear left wheel => Fig.26-13
  • Stress-free alignment of exhaust system => Page 26-24
  • Tighten bolted connections on clamp evenly to 40 Nm.
