1 - Cylinder head gasket
q   Renewing:
t  Engine codes AEB, AJL → Chapter
t  Engine codes ANB, APU, ARK, ATW → Chapter
q   Installation position: Part No. towards cylinder head
q   If renewed, change coolant and engine oil
2 - Cylinder head
q   Removing:
t  Engine codes AEB, AJL → Chapter
t  Engine codes ANB, APU, ARK, ATW → Chapter
q   Installing → Chapter
q   Checking for distortion → Fig.
q   Machining limit → Fig.
q   If renewed, change coolant and engine oil
3 - Oil deflector
q   Note installation position: Above inlet camshaft between cylinders 1 and 2
4 - Bolt
q   Renew
q   Note correct sequence when loosening → Anchor and → Anchor
q   Tightening torque and sequence → Fig.
5 - Seal
q   Renew if damaged or leaking
6 - Ignition coil
7 - Bolt
q   10 Nm
8 - Filler cap
9 - Seal
q   Renew if damaged or leaking
10 - Nut
q   Tighten inner nuts first
q   Tighten outer nuts in diagonal sequence
q   10 Nm
11 - Cylinder head cover
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
12 - Gaskets for cylinder head cover
q   Renew if damaged or leaking
q   Before fitting, apply sealant at sealing points → Chapter
13 - Coolant flange
q   With coolant temperature sender
14 - Bolt
q   10 Nm
15 - O-ring
q   Renew

   
Cylinder head - tightening torque and sequence
–  Tighten cylinder head bolts in 3 stages and in sequence shown as follows:
1.  Tighten to 60 Nm.
2.  Turn 90° further.
3.  Turn 90° further.

Checking cylinder head for distortion
–  Use straight edge and feeler gauge to measure cylinder head for distortion at several points.
l  Max. permissible distortion: 0.1 mm.

Cylinder head machining limit
Machining of the cylinder head (surface grinding) is only permissible down to the minimum dimension -a-.
l  Minimum dimension: -a- = 139.25 mm
