Checking charge pressure sender -G31- - engine codes ANB, APU, ARK, ATW Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Hand-held multimeter -V.A.G 1526D-

t  Voltage tester -V.A.G 1527B-

t  Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594C-

t  Adapter cable, 121-pin -V.A.G 1598/31- t  Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051B- Procedure   Note The charge pressure sender -G31- and the wiring connections are monitored by the engine control unit. l  Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051B- connected. l  Engine running. l  Vehicle self-diagnosis and vehicle system “01 - Engine electronics” selected.

Display on -VAS 5051B-: –  From menu -1-, select diagnostic function “Interrogate fault memory” and press → key to continue. If a fault relating to charge pressure sender -G31- is displayed: –  Press ← key to terminate function “Interrogate fault memory”. –  Select “End output”. –  Switch off ignition.

–  Unplug electrical connector -arrow- at charge pressure sender -G31-.

Checking voltage supply –  Connect hand-held multimeter -V.A.G 1526D- to measure voltage between contacts -1- and -3- of electrical connector for charge pressure sender -G31-. –  Switch on ignition. l  Specification: approx. 5 V.

–  If specification is not attained, connect adapter cable, 121-pin -V.A.G 1598/31- (test box) to connectors of wiring harness; do not connect engine control unit. Connect earth clip of test box to earth → Rep. Gr.24.

–  Check for open circuit and short to positive or earth in the following wiring for charge pressure sender -G31-:

–  Repair wiring connection if necessary.

Checking signal wire –  Connect electrical connector to charge pressure sender -G31-. –  Connect multimeter (voltage measurement range) between socket “101” and socket “108” of adapter cable, 121-pin -V.A.G 1598/31-. –  Start the engine and run at idling speed. l  Specification: approx. 1.90 V –  Increase engine speed by operating throttle quickly. l  Specification: 2.00 ... 3.00 V

–  If specifications are not attained, check for open circuit and short to positive or earth in the following wiring for charge pressure sender -G31-:

–  Repair wiring connection if necessary.
