Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1921-

Removing
–  Drain off coolant → Chapter.
–  Remove intake manifold (top section) → Chapter.
–  Move wiring clear of bottom coolant pipe.
–  Disengage retaining clip on connecting flange to detach coolant hose going to heat exchanger at rear of coolant pipe -2-.
–  Detach coolant hose -4- going to oil cooler from coolant pipe.
–  Remove bolt -3-.
–  Push coolant pipe to rear and detach.
–  Remove plug -5- if necessary.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
  Note
t  Renew O-rings.
t  Secure all hose connections with the correct type of hose clips (same as original equipment) → Parts catalogue.
–  Clean and smoothen sealing surface for O-ring as required.
–  Moisten new O-ring with coolant additive “G12+”.
–  Push coolant pipe into bore on cylinder block.
–  Install intake manifold (top section) → Chapter.
–  Fill cooling system → Anchor.
