Checking semi-automatic tensioning roller for toothed belt

Procedure l  Toothed belt fitted and tensioned. –  Lift off engine cover -arrows-.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows-. –  Remove air ducts -1- and -2-.

–  Turn quick-release fastener -item 1- 90° anti-clockwise. –  Raise retaining tabs -arrows- and detach top toothed belt cover.   Caution The engine must only be turned at the crankshaft, in the direction of normal engine rotation (clockwise).

–  Turn crankshaft at central bolt on crankshaft sprocket in direction of engine rotation to “TDC mark”-arrows-.

l  At the same time the marking on front of the camshaft sprocket must align with the marking on the rear toothed belt cover -arrows-. –  If necessary, turn crankshaft one turn further.

–  Push in toothed belt with firm thumb pressure. l  The pointer -2- should move to side. –  Release thumb pressure on toothed belt. l  Tensioner should return to initial position. (Pointer back in line with notch -1-).   Note Check the position of notch and pointer on tensioning roller using a mirror.
