Removing cylinder head (right-side)   Note

t  The cylinder head bolts have been gradually converted from a multi-point socket to Polydrive. It is necessary to establish the type of bolt heads installed before slackening off or tightening the cylinder head bolts: t  A - Multi-point socket head (use socket -3410-). t  B - Polydrive head (use special wrench, long reach -T10070-) Special tools and workshop equipment required

Procedure l  Engine in vehicle.   Note All cable ties which are released or cut open when removing must be fitted in the same position when installing.   Caution Observe notes on procedure for disconnecting the battery → Rep. Gr.27. –  Detach rubber seal from plenum chamber cover in direction of -arrow-. –  Detach plenum chamber cover -1- towards the front.

–  With ignition switched off, disconnect battery earth cable -arrow-. –  Remove front bumper → Rep. Gr.63. –  Move lock carrier to service position → Rep. Gr.50. –  Drain off coolant → Chapter. –  Remove front exhaust pipe (right-side).

–  Remove toothed belt → Chapter. –  Take off camshaft sprocket. –  Unscrew toothed belt cover (rear right) -arrows-. –  Remove intake manifold → Chapter.

Vehicles with secondary air system: –  Detach vacuum hose -4- at combination valve. –  Remove bolts -3-. –  Unscrew bolt -1- for connecting pipe bracket. All models: –  Unscrew bolts -2- on coolant pipe.   Note The coolant pipe remains installed.

–  Detach electrical connectors from Hall sender and from camshaft control valve. –  Detach pressure pipe for power steering at power steering pump and at cylinder head cover -arrows-.

–  Remove cylinder head cover (right-side) → Chapter. –  Loosen cylinder head bolts in the sequence: -1 ... 8-. –  Remove cylinder head bolts and carefully detach cylinder head.
