Procedure
  Note
Renew self-locking nuts, gaskets and seals.
–  Remove sealant residue from sump (top section) and cylinder block with rotating plastic brush or similar.
  WARNING
Wear safety goggles.
–  Clean sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.

–  Cut off tube nozzle at front marking (nozzle approx. 3 mm Ø).
  A17-0081
–  Apply sealant bead to clean sealing surface of top section of sump, as shown in illustration.
l  Thickness of sealant bead: 2 ... 3 mm.
  Note
t  The sump (top section) must be installed within 5 minutes after applying sealant.
t  Sealant bead must not be wider than 3 mm, otherwise excess sealant could ingress into sump and clog strainer in oil intake pipe.
t  Take particular care when applying sealant bead in area of rear sealing flange -arrows-.

–  Fit top section of sump in position (2nd mechanic required) and pre-tighten bolts -1- and -2- securing top section of sump to cylinder block diagonally to 5 Nm.
–  Tighten bolts securing sump (top section) to gearbox.
–  Tighten bolts securing sump (top section) to cylinder block diagonally to final setting.
Remaining installation steps are carried out in reverse sequence; note the following:
–  Install oil pump → Chapter.
–  Install sump (bottom section) → Chapter „Installing sump (bottom section) - engines with moulded gasket“ or → Chapter „Installing sump (bottom section) - engines with liquid gasket“.
–  Install subframe (note tightening sequence) → Rep. Gr.40.
–  Renew O-ring on guide tube for oil dipstick and insert guide tube into hole in top section of sump.
–  Install starter → Rep. Gr.27.
–  Install poly V-belt → Anchor.
–  Allow stop for torque reaction support to rest on rubber buffer for torque reaction support under its own weight and tighten bolts.
–  Fill up with engine oil and check oil level → Chapter.
–  Observe notes on procedures required after connecting battery → Rep. Gr.27.
–  Fill cooling system → Anchor.
