Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782-

Removing
–  Remove noise insulation -arrows-.
–  Place used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782- under engine.
–  Drain off engine oil.
–  Remove engine → Chapter.
–  Leave engine on scissor-type assembly platform -VAS 6131- with gearbox attached.
–  Remove turbocharger (left-side) → Chapter.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- and remove bracket for air pipe.

–  Unscrew nuts -1 ... 9- and remove exhaust manifold (left-side).
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

Renew gaskets, seals and self-locking nuts.
–  Tighten exhaust manifold in 2 stages in the sequence shown:
1.  Initially tighten to 15 Nm.
2.  Tighten to 25 Nm.
–  Install turbocharger (left-side) → Chapter.
–  Install front exhaust pipe (left-side) with starter and main catalytic converter → Chapter.
–  Install engine → Chapter.
–  Fill up with engine oil and check oil level → Chapter.

l  1) Renew nuts.
l  2) Coat with high-temperature paste; for high-temperature paste refer to → Parts catalogue
