Testing the boost pressure system
Testing the boost pressure control
  • ‒ Read measured value block, Display Group 25, engine at idling speed =>Page 01-49.

→ Indicated on display
Read measured value block 25    ⇒
    7.40 ms    7.10 ms    7.05 ms    67 %
Caution!
The V.A.G 1551 must be operated by a second person.
  • ‒ Perform a test drive at full load at approx. 4000 rpm.

→ Observe the display in display zone 4 (signal ratio of solenoid valve for boost pressure limitation).
Read measured value block 25    ⇒
    7.40 ms    7.10 ms    7.05 ms    67 %
  • Specified result: 5...95 %

If the specified result is not achieved, change the engine speed until the signal ratio is within the specified range.

→ Observe the display in display zone 2 (corrected specified -engine load)
Read measured value block 25    ⇒
    7.40 ms    7.10 ms    7.05 ms    67 %
  • Specified result: 3.00...8.00 ms

→ Observe the display in display zone 3 (actual-engine load)
Read measured value block 25    ⇒
    7.40 ms    7.10 ms    7.05 ms    67 %
  • Specified result: Agreement with corrected specified engine load in display zone 2 (tolerance ± 0.50 ms)

If the actual engine load is outside the tolerance, this may be due to one of the following faults:

  • ◆ Electrical fault in solenoid valve for the boost pressure control.
  • ◆ Charge pressure control hoses disconnected, leaking or blocked.
  • ◆ -N75 solenoid valve for boost pressure control blocked.
  • ◆ Leak between turbocharger and intake manifold.
  • ◆ Actuation mechanism (linkage, shaft) for the by-pass valve stiff or jamming.
  • ◆ Turbocharger defective (turbine jammed by foreign body).
