If accelerator position sender or engine control unit is replaced on vehicles with automatic/infinitely variable speed gearbox, kickdown function must be learnt by engine control unit.

Preconditions:

• ● No faults recorded in fault memory; interrogate fault memory .
• ● Engine stopped, ignition switched on.

• ‒ Connect the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 or fault reader V.A.G 1551 and select the engine electronics control unit with "address word" 01 => Page 01-8.
  For this purpose, the ignition must be switched on.

• ‒ Enter "04" to select "Start basic setting" and confirm with Q key.

• ‒ Enter "063" for "display group number 063" and confirm entry with Q key.

Note:

You will now be instructed to: "Actuate kickdown"

• ‒ Fully depress accelerator pedal beyond kickdown point and keep it pressed.

Note:

While the kickdown point is being learned, "Kickdown ADP running" is displayed on V.A.G 1551. Once the kickdown point has been successfully learned, "Kickdown ADP OK" is displayed on V.A.G 1551.

• ‒ Check specification in display zone 4:

Notes:

• ◆ "ADP" in display zone 4 stands for adaption.
• ◆ It is important that "ADP OK" is displayed in display zone 4 after adaption.
• ◆ "ERROR" can be displayed, if e.g. accelerator pedal is not pressed when instructed by tester, or if accelerator pedal was released while adaption was already running but process was not yet complete.
  In both cases it is necessary to exit the "Basic setting" mode and restart the adaption process afresh .

If specification "ADP OK" is attained:

• ‒ Press the ⇒key.

• ‒ Enter "06" to end output.
