If accelerator pedal position sender or engine control unit is replaced kickdown function must be learnt on vehicles with automatic gearbox.

Special tools, testers and workshop equipment required

  • ◆ VAS 5051 with VAS 5051/1

  • ◆ V.A.G 1551 with V.A.G 1551/3 A

Requirements:

  • ● Fault recorded in memory during diagnosis; interrogate fault memory .
  • ● Engine stopped, ignition switched on

Work sequence

  • ‒ Connect up vehicle diagnosis, measurement and information system VAS 5051 or fault reader V.A.G 1551 and select engine electronics control unit with "Address word" 01 .
    When doing this the ignition must be switched on.

Select function XX
  • ‒ Enter "04" to select "Start basic setting" and confirm with Q key.
 
→ Display readout:
Starting basic setting         Q
Enter display group number XXX
  • ‒ Enter "063" to select "Display Group 063" and confirm entry with the Q key.
 
→ Display readout:
System in basic setting 63    ⇒
    1    2    3    4
  • ‒ Fully depress accelerator pedal beyond kickdown point and keep it pressed.
  • ‒ Check specified value in display zone 4:
