When the ignition is switched on the engine control unit tests all the components whose functions relate to the electronic throttle system.

During the test sequence the engine control unit activates the EPC warning lamp for about 1 second. If a fault is detected during this test phase the warning lamp will remain lit.

If a fault is detected in the electronic throttle system while the engine is running, the engine control unit will activate the EPC warning lamp (see Fault Table for list of possible faults). At the same time a fault code is stored in the fault memory of the engine control unit.
