Checking air mass meter -G70

Note:

On engine code AEB the air mass meter is located in the upper part of the air cleaner housing.

Checking operation

  • ‒ Read measured value block (function 08) and select Display group 02 =>Page 01-49.

→ Display:
Read measured value block    2     ⇒
1    2    3    4

Display zone 4 will show the intake air mass (grams per second).

Specified values =>Read measured value block - Page .

  • ‒ If the specified values are not attained or a fault relating to the air mass meter is stored in the fault memory, test the voltage supply =>Page 24-76.

Testing voltage supply (engine codes ADP and ADR only)

  • ‒ Test fuse 29.

96-836
  • ‒ → If the fuse is OK, connect diode test lamp V.A.G 1527 between contact 3 of the connector and engine ground.
  • ‒ Operate the starter briefly (the engine may also start briefly). The diode test lamp should light up.
  • ‒ → If the diode test lamp does not light up, test wiring from contact 3 on connector to fuse for open circuit or short to ground. Repair as necessary.
  • ‒ If the fuse and the wiring are OK, but the diode test lamp still fails to light up, test the fuel pump relay - Page 24-31.
  • ‒ If voltage supply is OK, test signal wires =>Page 24-78.

Testing voltage supply (engine code AEB only)

  • ‒ Test fuse 29.

A24-0020
  • ‒ → If the fuse is OK, take out the rubber grommet on the cable guide on the upper part of the air cleaner housing and disconnect the plug from the air mass meter
  • ‒ Connect diode test lamp V.A.G 1527 between engine ground and contact 3 on the connector.

A24-0020
  • ‒ If the voltage supply is OK, connect test box V.A.G 1598/19 to the wiring harness for the Motronic control unit -J220
  • ‒ → Check wiring between contact 1 of the connector (ground wire) ...

24-1193
  • ‒ → ... and socket D11 of the test box for open circuit or short to positive and repair as necessary
  • ‒ If voltage supply is OK, test signal wires =>Page 24-79.

96-836

Testing signal wire (engine codes ADP and ADR only)

  • ‒ Connect test box V.A.G 1598/19 to the wiring harness of the Motronic control unit -J220.
  • ‒ Test wiring from plug connector on air mass meter ...

24-1193
  • ‒ → ... to the Motronic control unit for open circuit in wiring or short circuit to positive or ground, and repair if necessary:
