- Damage to engine control unit

- Check voltage

- Excess voltage from
- assisted start
- Defective alternator

- Read measured value block, Display Group 003, display zone 2

- Battery discharged
- Current drain when ignition is off

- Check battery charge level

Notes on fault code 00532:

  • ◆ If the fault is shown as a sporadic fault, ignore the fault message on the display. This fault is often stored when the engine is left idling for a long period with a number of electrical consumers switched on and causing heavy discharging of the battery.
  • ◆ The fault message "Signal too low" is stored if the supply voltage falls below 10.00 V for more than 1 second. (The control unit will not function at less than 6.5 V.)
  • ◆ The unit does not check for low signals when the engine is being started since the voltage may fall below 10.00 V during starting.

  • ◆ (add) = additive, i.e. fault only occurs during idling
  • ◆ (mul) = multiplicative, i.e. fault occurs over the entire engine speed range and at all throttle openings.
  • ◆ If the fault "00561" and the fault "01088"are stored in fault memory, there must be a fault present which leads to incorrect fuel/air mixtures for both cylinder banks.

Note on fault code 16500:

The temperature curve between 20°C and 60°C is compared with a model temperature curve stored in the control unit. The model curve rises less sharply than the actual curve. If there is a fault which causes the actual temperature to rise too slowly, the real valueswill coincide with those in the model curve at a certain point. Note on fault codes 16500, 16501 and 16502:

As soon as a fault is stored in the fault memory, the engine control unit uses the intake air temperature as a substitute value for starting the engine (starting temperature substitute value) and calculates the engine temperature according to a predetermined model (an increase of 5.25 °C every 65 seconds). After a certain period a fixed substitute value will be adopted when the engine has reached operating temperature. This fixed substitute value is also dependent on the intake air temperature.

Note on fault code 16505:

The air flow rate (air mass) is compared with the throttle valve angle at each different engine speed.

Notes on fault codes 16505, 16506 and 16507:

  • ◆ If one of the above faults is detected, the control unit adopts a substitute value derived from the engine speed.
  • ◆ If a fault develops with both the throttle valve potentiometer and the air mass meter at the same time, the emergency running function cannot operate and therefore the engine will cut out.
