Simos injection and ignition system (4-cylinder)
Self-diagnosis
Function

The control unit for the fuel injection and ignition system is equipped with a fault memory.

If faults occur in the sensors and components being monitored, they will be stored in the fault memory together with an indication of the type of fault.

The stored faults are output after initiating the fault display
.

This fault memory must be erased once the faults have been eliminated => Page 01-10.

A fault relating to the function of the Lambda control system can only be interrogated after a test drive of at least 10 minutes duration.

The fault memory also stores faults caused by temporary open circuits or loose contacts. These are displayed as sporadic faults (SP), and if they do not re-occur after 40 more engine starts they are automatically erased.

Note:

Sporadic faults are faults which only occur occasionally (sporadic = at irregular intervals, intermittent).
