Testing auxiliary signals
Testing engine speed signal
The engine speed signal is required for the rev counter, air conditioner and automatic gearbox.
However, since the signal cannot be read in the form in which it is generated by engine speed sender -G28, it has to be processed by the engine control unit first.
Test sequence

‒ Connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 to wiring harness for engine control unit. Do not connect to the engine control unit itself.

‒ Test for open circuit and short to positive or earth in the following wiring connection:
