If thetester does not show the correct coding for the vehicle, or if the control unit has been renewed, the control unit must be coded as follows.

Work sequence

• ‒ Connect the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 => Page 01-2, and select the vehicle system "01 - Engine electronics" from the menu. When doing this the ignition must be on.

→ Display on VAS 5051:

• ‒ Select diagnosis function "07 - Code control unit" from the menu -1-.

→ Display on VAS 5051:

•     1 -    Enter code word
  (figures up to 32767)

• ‒ Using the keypad -2-, enter the correct control unit coding as shown in the coding table => Page 01-73.

• ‒ Confirm input with Q button

→ Display on VAS 5051:

•     1 -    Coding is being performed.

• ‒ Wait until the next display appears

→ Display on VAS 5051:

•     1 -    Coding of vehicle system performed
•     2 -    Control unit identification with new coding
• (previous coding in brackets)

• ‒ Press the ◂ button to exit from the diagnosis function "07 - Code control unit"
• ‒ Switch ignition off and then on again.

Notes:

• ◆ The newly entered code will be activated the next time the ignition is switched on.
• ◆ If the ignition is not switched off and then on again after entering the correct coding, it will not be possible to erase fault code 01044 ("Control unit incorrectly coded") from the fault memory.

• ‒ Erase fault memory => Page 01-7.
• ‒ Activate the cruise control system
  => Page 23-95.
