The clutch pedal switch (F36) informs the control unit whether the clutch is engaged or disengaged. This prevents the engine from bucking when disengaging and engaging and also prevents the engine from revving during disengaging operations when the cruise control system is switched on.

• ‒ Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 (V.A.G 1552) and select the engine electronics control unit using "Address word" 01. The ignition must be switched on.

• ‒ Press keys 0 and 8 for the function "Read measured value block" and confirm entry with Q key.

• ‒ Press keys 0, 0 and 6 for "display group number 6" and confirm entry with Q key.

• ‒ Observe display in display zone 2.

• ‒ Operate clutch pedal. The left position must change to 1.

If specified value is not attained:

• ‒ Switch ignition off.
• ‒ Remove the connector from the clutch pedal switch => overview of fitting locations, Page 23-4.
• ‒ Measure resistance at switch contacts.

• Specified value: Clutch not depressed: max. 10 ω
• Specified value: Clutch depressed: ∞ ω

If the specified values are not obtained:

• ‒ Replace clutch pedal switch (F36).

If specifications are attained:

• ‒ → Connect test box V.A.G 1598/22 to wiring harness for engine control unit .

The following wiring connections are to be checked for open circuits and/or short to positive or negative.

• ‒ Rectify any open/short circuit as necessary.
