Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Hand-held multimeter -V.A.G 1526C-
t  Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594C-
t  Test box -V.A.G 1598A-
t  Adapter -V.A.G 1598/4- for multi-pin connector, 26-pin
t  Adapter -V.A.G 1598/25- for multi-pin connector, 32-pin

Procedure:
–  Remove instrument cluster → Chapter.
Vehicles up to model year 1997:
–  Connect test box -V.A.G 1598A- with adapter -V.A.G 1598/4- to multi-pin connector, 26-pin, yellow.
–  Connect hand-held multimeter to measure resistance between socket “26” and earth.
Vehicles from model year 1998:
–  Connect test box -V.A.G 1598A- with adapter -V.A.G 1598/25- to multi-pin connector, 32-pin, blue.
–  Connect hand-held multimeter to measure resistance between sockets “8” and “9”.
All models:
l  Coolant temperature 90 °C: approx. 110 Ω.
l  Coolant temperature 120 °C: approx. 50 Ω.
If reading does not match specification:
–  Check wiring connection between instrument cluster and coolant temperature display sender -G2- according to current flow diagram.
If no fault is found in wiring:
–  Renew coolant temperature display sender -G2-.
