Extended service interval
The dash panel insert as of Model Year 2000 is fitted with a service interval display which can process flexible data. The dash panel insert calculates the vehicle-specific service requirement from various input quantities such as number of cold starts, performance, fuel consumption and oil temperature.
Technical features of dash panel insert
t  Two different dash panel inserts are fitted:
   Midline: With small centre display
   Highline: With large centre display with driver information system (DIS)
t  The speedometer contains an LCD display for the mileage counter and trip recorder.
t  The centre display presents the service messages and, in conjunction with certain optional extras, a selection menu controlled by way of a function selection switch in the centre console.
t  The warning lamps are integrated into the speedometer and rev counter.
t  The dash panel insert is controlled by a microprocessor and is provided with comprehensive self-diagnosis. Any faults occurring at system components cause fault codes to be stored in the dash panel insert fault memory. The faults can be established by way of the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051B-.
“dEF” display in trip recorder
“dEF” appears on the trip recorder display if the control unit in the dash panel insert detects a fault at the read-only memory. If “dEF” is displayed:
–  Replace the dash panel insert → Rep. Gr.90.
Dash panel insert replacement
t  The dash panel insert is not to be dismantled.
t  If necessary, the dash panel insert is to be replaced as part of the exchange system.
t  Complete the damage report and return it together with the dash panel insert.
t  Always use the original packaging when returning the unit.
t  On dash panel insert replacement, mileage counter and service interval display adaption can be performed using the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051B- → Chapter.
