Preparations before installing a new rear window
  Note
If window flange is damaged on removal, re-establish paintwork structure as stipulated in „Vehicle Paintwork“ manual and take anti-corrosion measures if necessary in line with instructions given in „surface treatment/chemical materials“ binder.
If you are reusing an undamaged window
–  When reusing an undamaged window, cut back remaining adhesive sealant on the window glass and body flange until it is even using electric cutter -V.A.G 1561A- and scraper -V.A.G 1561/8-. Do not remove adhesive sealant completely.
–  The remaining sealant is required as a base for better adhesion of the new adhesive sealant.
  WARNING
t  Keep bonding surface clean and free from grease.
t  Do not cut back bonding surface until shortly before installation.
t  Do NOT apply primer to bonding surface and do NOT use cleaning solution.
If installing a new window:
–  Clean window in bonding area using D 009 401 04 and apply glass/paint primer D 009 200 02.
  WARNING
t
t  New replacement windows are provided with an adhesive stopper strip next to bus bar for this purpose.
Application of primer

–  Apply primer -2- D 009 200 02 evenly to the window all around bonding area (centrally aligned with markings), using applicator -1- Part No. D 009 500 25 (felt pad with wire).
–  This guarantees correct distance from edge of window (dimension -b-).
–  Correct primer width (dimension -a-) is ensured by the markings on the window.
–  Start application with fully soaked felt. Flashing-off time: approx. 10 minutes.
  WARNING
The ceramic coating on the glass is not a primer. The glass must always be primed before applying adhesive sealant.
  Note
Do not "rework" primer strip until it has dried completely.
