Preparations before installing a new rear window
  Note
If window flange is damaged on removal, re-establish paintwork structure as stipulated in „Vehicle Paintwork“ manual and take anti-corrosion measures if necessary in line with instructions given in „surface treatment/chemical materials“ binder.
–  Note that different spacers are used for insulating glass and standard glass.
–  Bond on spacers at bottom in line with markings on rear window.

–  On left side, adhesive stopper strip -2- must be bonded centrally onto aerial conductor next to bus bar for rear window heating.
–  On right side, bond inner edge of strip onto outer edge of bus bar for rear window heating.
  Note
Any adhesive sealant emerging at the bottom of the rear window when inserting the window into the window opening must be removed immediately.
  WARNING
Glass adhesive must never come into contact with aerial conductors or bus bars for heated rear window.
If you are reusing an undamaged window
–  When reusing an undamaged window, cut back remaining adhesive sealant on window glass and body flange until it is even using electric cutter -V.A.G 1561A- and scraper -V.A.G 1561/10-. Do not remove adhesive sealant completely.
–  The remaining sealant is required as a base for better adhesion of the new adhesive sealant.
  WARNING
t  Keep bonding surface clean and free from grease.
t  Do not cut back bonding surface until shortly before installation.
t  Do NOT apply primer to bonding surface and do NOT use cleaning solution.
If installing a new window:
–  Clean window in bonding area using D 009 401 04 and apply glass/paint primer D 009 200 02.
Application of primer
  A64-0056
–  Use applicator -1- to apply primer -2- all around, spreading it evenly in one stroke.
–  Start application with fully soaked felt. Flashing-off time: approx. 10 minutes.
t  Primer width: Dimension a + approx. 20 mm
–  Apply primer centrally in relation to adhesive bead.
  WARNING
The ceramic coating on the glass is not a primer. The glass must always be primed before applying adhesive sealant.
  Note
Do not "rework" primer strip until it has dried completely.
