Servicing crash sensors for airbags > < Sticker for deactivated side airbag (rear)

Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle diagnostic tester
–  Remove seat bench (rear): vehicles up to 10.2004 → Chapter, vehicles from 11.2004 onwards → Chapter.
  Note
The left and right side airbags can only be activated together. Side airbags cannot be activated separately.
A plug connector is fitted on each side at C-pillar (left and right).
–  Cut through cable ties securing connectors.
   
–  Plug together connectors -1- for side airbags.
–  Insert connectors -1- in slot in padding on seat bench (rear).
–  Remove sill/pillar trim (rear) → Chapter.
–  Plug in crash sensor connector at C-pillar → Chapter.
–  Install sill/pillar trim (rear) → Chapter.
–  Install rear seat bench.
–  Remove sticker indicating that side airbags have been deactivated from rear door frame.
–  Remove any adhesive left on door frame with a suitable cleaning fluid.
–  Alter encoding of airbag control unit to option with rear side airbag.
Refer to Guided Fault Finding, Body, General body repairs, 69 passenger protection, airbag 8.4E, electrical components, J234 airbag control unit, encoding J234 airbag control unit.
–  Fill in the registration card and return the card to the importer or regional sales centre for registration. Remove page 3 of the registration card from vehicle wallet.
