t  Following any repair work on the front passenger's seat during which the seat and/or backrest cover are/is disengaged, the basic setting for the seat occupied recognition control unit must always be performed → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
t  Make sure there are no objects lying on the seat before or while you are performing the basic setting.
t  The seat and all components of the seat occupied recognition system must be dry during installation. Moisture has a negative effect on the operation of the seat occupied recognition system. If necessary, allow the seat, seat padding, seat occupied sensor and seat cover to dry.
t  Do NOT unplug the electrical connector between the seat occupied recognition control unit and the seat occupied sensor → Chapter.
t  Do not pull at the electrical wire of the seat occupied sensor.
t  Make sure that the components of the seat occupied recognition system (service kit) do not fall onto hard surfaces, do not come into contact with grease and cannot be damaged by sharp objects.
t  Standard seat/sports seat: The seat occupied sensor is bonded onto the seat padding on the replacement part (service kit). If necessary, make sure that the sensor is bonded on without any creases.
t  Multi-contour seat: The seat occupied sensor with seat heating element is stitched into the seat cover on the replacement part (service kit). Only replace the seat cover. Take care not to kink the seat cover.
t  Make sure that the seat padding and seat cover are in the correct installation position.
t  Renew all staples/clips and make sure they are correctly positioned on the seat. Make sure the upholstery clips do not damage the seat occupied sensor (bonded on or stitched in); they should not be clipped into the sensor.
t  The use of loose seat covers - such as cushions or similar - impairs the function of the seat occupied recognition system and thus the function of the airbag system.
