WARNING

q | Removing and installing → Running gear, front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive; Rep. gr.48 |

t | Removing: |
– | Disconnect battery earth strap → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27. |
– | Release steering column adjuster. |
– | Pull steering wheel -2- out and up as far as possible. |
– | Move steering wheel -2- to vertical position. |
– | Slacken off one Torx bolt -T30--1-. |
– | Move steering wheel back half a turn and slacken off second Torx bolt -T30--1-. |
– | Unplug connector for airbag unit -4-. |
– | Set down airbag unit -5- with impact cushion facing upwards. |
t | Installing: |
Install in reverse order of removal. Observe the following: |
– | Make sure connector and retaining clip engage fully with a clicking sound. |
– | Make sure wires do not make contact with gas generator. |
– | Take care not to trap airbag wire. Route airbag wire to left in a loop. |
– | Tighten bolts -1- (2x) to a torque of 7 Nm. |
– | Switch on ignition. |

– | Connect battery earth strap → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27. |

t | Observe measures to be taken after connecting the battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27. |
t | If the airbag warning lamp -K75- indicates a fault following installation, you must interrogate, erase and then re-interrogate the event memory → Vehicle diagnostic tester. |
