t  Vehicle diagnostic tester
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1410-

  WARNING
Observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
1 - Airbag unit (front passenger side)
  WARNING
Observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
  WARNING
For correct combination of dash panel and airbag unit refer to → Parts catalogue.
t  Removing:
–  Disconnect battery earth strap → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
–  Remove glove box → Chapter.
–  Unplug connector behind airbag unit → Fig.
  Caution
Never unplug connector -5- (2-pin, red) at front passenger's airbag unit.
–  Remove brace behind airbag unit.
–  Remove nuts -3- (4x).
–  Remove airbag unit.
–  Set down airbag unit with impact cushion facing upwards.
t  Installing:
  WARNING
For correct combination of dash panel and airbag unit refer to → Parts catalogue.
–  Install airbag unit.
–  Make sure connector engage properly with a clicking sound behind airbag unit → Fig.
–  Switch on ignition.
  WARNING
Make sure nobody is in the vehicle when the battery is being connected.
–  Connect battery earth strap → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
  Note
t  Observe measures to be taken after connecting battery. → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
t  If the airbag warning lamp -K75- indicates a fault following installation, you must interrogate, erase and then re-interrogate the event memory → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
2 - Support
q   Must be renewed if airbag has triggered
q   Remove front passenger's airbag unit
q   Remove bolts -4- (4x)
3 - Nut (4x)
q   Tightening torque: 9 Nm
q   Must be renewed after airbag has been triggered
4 - Bolts (4x)
q   Tightening torque: 9 Nm
q   Must be renewed after airbag has been triggered
5 - Connector
6 - Frame for airbag unit
q   Must be renewed if airbag has triggered
q   Remove front passenger's airbag unit

   
Unplugging airbag connector
–  Press release mechanism -A- and pull out connector in -direction of arrow-.
