Removing and installing seat occupied sensor
  WARNING
Observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
   
  WARNING
The replacement part (service kit) for seat occupied recognition (USA) is already pre-calibrated and the components must NOT be disconnected. The service kit consists of:
t  Seat occupied recognition control unit -J706-
t  Pressure sensor for seat occupied recognition -G452-
t  Seat occupied sensor mat
t  Seat padding
t  Wiring harness between seat occupied recognition control unit -J706- and pressure sensor -G452-.
  Note
The seat occupied recognition system is only fitted on the front passenger's seat.
1 - Seat occupied recognition control unit -J706-
Removing
–  Disconnect battery earth strap → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
–  Remove front passenger seat → Chapter.
–  Attach seat repair stand -VAS 6136- to engine and gearbox support -VAS 6095-.
–  Attach front seat to seat repair stand -VAS 6136-.
–  Remove backrest → Chapter.
–  Unplug connector -6-.
–  Remove bolts -2- (2x).
–  Remove padding → Chapter or → Chapter (for seats with electric adjustment).
–  Unfasten guide clip -8-.
  Caution
Do NOT unplug connectors -3- and -7-.
–  Push pressure sensor -G452- -4- to side off retaining clip -9-.
2 - Bolts
t  2.5 Nm
3 - Connector on seat occupied recognition control unit -J706-
t  Do NOT unplug under any circumstances.
4 - Pressure sensor for seat occupied recognition -G452-
5 - Pressure hose
6 - Connector between service kit and seat wiring harness
7 - Connector on pressure sensor -G452-
t  Do NOT unplug under any circumstances.
8 - Guide clip
9 - Retaining bracket

   
Removing service kit
–  Fold up padding -5-.
  Note
t  The padding is part of the service kit.
t  Clip -4- must not be disengaged.
t  The solid foam insert in the fleece is not part of the scope of delivery of the service kit.
–  Remove clips -2- and -3- (2x).
–  Carefully pull seat-occupied sensor mat -1- and padding -5- up, guiding pressure sensor -G452- and seat occupied recognition control unit -J706- through seat pan without unplugging connectors.
–  Detach complete service kit.
  WARNING
It is important that you do not bend or kink the pressure hose or the seat occupied sensor mat -1- while you are working.

Installing service kit
  Note
The solid foam insert in the fleece is not part of the scope of delivery of the service kit. For this reason, please use the "old" solid foam insert from the fabric layer you have removed.
–  Guide pressure sensor -G452- and seat occupied recognition control unit -J706- through seat pan from top without unplugging connectors.
–  Pull fabric layer between seat pan and seat occupied sensor mat -1- straight so there are no creases.
–  Secure seat occupied sensor mat -1- using clips -2- and -3- (2x).

Installing
–  Secure pressure sensor -G452 -4-.
–  Use bolts -2- (2x) to secure seat occupied recognition control unit -J706-. Tightening torque: 2.5 Nm.
–  Plug in connector -6-.
–  Install padding for seat pan, making sure that all upholstery clips are engaged/installed in previous positions (before removal) → Chapter or → Chapter (for seats with electric seat adjustment).
Remaining installation is performed in reverse order of removal.
–  Every time the front passenger seat is newly installed in the vehicle you must carry out the Guided Fault-Finding program under the menu option „Airbag“.
After installing a new service kit and after carrying out any repairs on the front passenger seat:
t  Basic setting for seat occupied recognition control unit -J706-
2 - Bolts
t  2.5 Nm
3 - Connector on seat occupied recognition control unit -J706-
t  Do NOT unplug under any circumstances.
4 - Pressure sensor for seat occupied recognition -G452-
5 - Pressure hose
  WARNING
It is important that you do not bend or kink the pressure hose -5- or the seat occupied sensor mat during installation.
–  Secure pressure hose to guide clip -8- at marking provided.
6 - Connector between service kit and seat wiring harness
7 - Connector on pressure sensor -G452-
t  Do NOT unplug under any circumstances.
