Removing
  WARNING
Observe the safety regulations for working on airbags → Chapter.
–  Remove front seat (with seat memory, electric adjustment) → Chapter.
–  Remove backrest cover panel → Chapter.

–  Use screwdriver to prise out fastening strips -6- (4x).
–  Place foil between padding and backrest frame as protection against metal particles.
–  Drill out rivet -5-.
–  Unplug connectors at lumbar support longitudinal and height adjustment motors -4- and -7-.

–  Disengage four-way lumbar support -3- with springs -2- (2x) at backrest frame -3-.

–  Unfasten Velcro strip between lumbar support -2- and backrest padding -1-.
–  Disengage lumbar support -2- at top of lumbar support frame -3-.
–  Take out lumbar support frame -3- with lumbar support -2-.
Installing
  WARNING
Observe the safety regulations for working on airbags → Chapter.

–  Place plastic foil -1- over Velcro strips -2- of lumbar support. Secure plastic foil in position at lumbar support.
–  Make sure lumbar support is connected to lumbar support frame with locking element -3- or a suitable pin.
–  Place lumbar support frame behind backrest frame and engage lumbar support frame in mounting for backrest frame (top left and right).

–  Before setting rivet -4-, fit a plastic washer -1- between lumbar support -2- and backrest frame -3-.
–  Rivet lumbar support frame -2- to backrest frame -3-.
–  Pull out plastic foil between backrest padding and lumbar support.
–  Fasten Velcro strip of lumbar support to backrest padding.
–  Plug in electrical connectors at longitudinal and height adjustment motors.
Perform remaining installation in reverse order of removal. Observe the following:
  WARNING
Before handling the airbag units (e.g. unplugging the electrical connector) the mechanic must discharge static electricity by briefly touching the door striker plate, or similar.
  Note
Make sure electrical connectors are fitted correctly (as far as stop) and engage audibly.
–  Switch on ignition.
  WARNING
The battery must be connected with the ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag or belt tensioner) are inexpertly repaired, this may result in unwanted triggering after connecting the battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle while you are connecting the battery.
–  Connect battery with ignition switched on; for procedure refer to → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
  Note
If the airbag warning lamp -K75- indicates a fault following installation, you must interrogate, erase and then re-interrogate the event memory → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
