Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1410-
t  Brake pedal actuator -V.A.G 1869/2-

   
  Note
t  Install all parts supplied in repair kit.
t  After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary so that the pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
t  To draw off brake fluid from brake fluid reservoir use a bleeder bottle which is used only for brake fluid. Brake fluid is poisonous and must on no account be sucked out with the mouth using a hose!
  Caution
On vehicles with ceramic brakes the wheel must not be allowed to drop onto the brake disc. This would cause irreparable damage to the disc. Screw two assembly pins into the wheel bolt holes when removing and fitting a wheel.
1 - Brake disc
q   Internally ventilated brake disc → Chapter
q   Disc thickness → Chapter
q   Wear limit → Chapter
q   Always renew on both sides of axle
q   Detach brake caliper prior to removing
2 - Brake caliper
q   Do not disconnect brake hose when renewing brake disc
q   Removing:
q   Remove brake pads → Item
q   Set up brake pedal actuator -V.A.G 1869/2-
q   Disconnect brake pipe → Item from brake caliper
q   Unbolt bracket → Item
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Installing:
q   Install brake pads → Item
q   Secure bracket → Item
q   Connect brake pipe → Item to caliper
q   Remove brake pedal actuator -V.A.G 1869/2-
q   Bleed brake system → Chapter
3 - Ribbed bolt, 200 Nm
q   Clean ribs if using again
4 - Bracket
q   Bolt to brake caliper housing
5 - Hexagon bolt, 25 Nm
6 - Brake line, 15 Nm
q   Screw into brake caliper housing
q   Screw into brake hose, counter hold on brake hose hexagon.
q   Ensure that lugs are properly seated in grooves in bracket.
7 - Spring clip
8 - Brake hose
q   Do not disconnect brake hose when renewing brake disc
9 - Hexagon socket head bolt, 110 Nm
q   Always renew if removed
10 - Torx bolt
q   Tightening torque: 5 Nm
11 - Retaining springs
12 - Pad retaining pins
13 - Brake pads
q   With wear indicator
q   Wear limit: 7 mm including backplate
q   Warning lamp in dash panel insert will light up when wear limit (2 to 3 mm) is reached
q   Checking thickness → Booklet803
q   Always renew on both sides of axle
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
