List of adaption channels
  Note
t  Adaption channels “01”, “02”, “06” and “07” are only active on vehicles fitted with an auxiliary heater as optional extra. On these vehicles, data are exchanged between the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-, the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- and the control unit in dash panel insert -J285- by way of the convenience data bus system.
t  Adaption channels “08”, “09” and “81” are only provided for operating and display units, Climatronic control unit -J255- as of hardware/software version “0711”.
t  Adaption channels “10” to “16” are only provided for operating and display units, Climatronic control unit -J255- as of hardware/software version “1323” (gradual introduction at the factory as of 09.03).
t  Adaption channels “17” to “19”, “21” to “80” and “82” onwards are not used at present.
t  Adaption channel “20” is only used with operating and display units, Climatronic control unit -J255- with part number index “AJ” onwards (intended for resetting of all altered settings to factory adaption). These operating and display units, Climatronic control unit -J255- are fitted on vehicles as of chassis number “400000” in Model Year 2005 (Saloon and Avant) and “012913” in Model Year 2005 (Cabrio) → Parts catalogue.
t  Adaption channels “01” and “02” can be used to enter a temperature increase in the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- of max. 4° C (input value up to “8”) in auxiliary heating mode.
t  If the setting entered in adaption channel “03” is “0”, a note is to be made in the vehicle documentation to the effect that the air conditioning system compressor regulating valve -N280- can no longer be deactivated by the engine control unit by way of the “air conditioner compressor shutoff” function.
t  Adaption channel “07” can be used to enter the function auxiliary heater deactivation by operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-. Auxiliary heater actuation can also be set in the control unit in dash panel insert -J285- by way of the adaption function (adaption channel “18”) → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 and → Electrical system; Rep. Gr. 01.

Temperature increase after starting auxiliary heating/ventilation mode
t  If, with the ignition switched off, the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- is actuated by way of the convenience data bus system in auxiliary heating/auxiliary ventilation mode, the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- regulates the specified temperature in the vehicle by the entered amount above the specified temperature set.
–  In basic setting “0” → Note, the specified temperature in auxiliary heating/auxiliary ventilation mode is set to the same level as the specified temperature in air conditioning mode
–  In basic setting “4” → Note, the specified temperature in auxiliary heating/auxiliary ventilation mode is set to 2 °C higher than the specified temperature in air conditioning mode
–  Depending on version, the adaption function can be used to increase the specified temperature in 0.5° C increments by up to 4.0° C (or 8 °C) (input value “1......8” or “1......16”).
→ Chapter

1)  Depending on the version of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-, the factory setting may be “0” or “4”; alter if applicable.

Compressor shutoff by engine control unit via “Air conditioner compressor shutoff” function
t  In basic setting “1”, the air conditioning system compressor regulating valve -N280- (and thus the compressor) is switched off as soon as the request is received from the engine control unit via the convenience data bus system (e.g. on acceleration) → Chapter (Reading measured value block, display group “002”)
–  The adaption function can be used to suppress deactivation of the air conditioning system compressor regulating valve -N280- on account of “air conditioner compressor shutoff” by changing the adaption to “0” (the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- ignores the request)
→ Chapter
040 → NoteEngine/air conditioner compressor transmission ratio
t  Adaption cannot be altered; assignment is specified in operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-.
–  The assignment to the relevant engine is transmitted via the convenience data bus system

060Decision-making process for auxiliary heating/auxiliary ventilation mode
t  If the auxiliary heater is started up by way of remote control or by the control unit in dash panel insert -J285- on the basis of a specified activation time (via the convenience data bus system), this determines the auxiliary heater starting mode
–  In basic setting “0” (automatic) and with ignition off, the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- determines by way of the measured actual temperatures and the set specified temperatures whether the auxiliary heater is to be started up or the system is to operate in auxiliary ventilation mode.
–  In setting “1” (last function), the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- always requests the last mode set (“Auxiliary heating” or “Auxiliary ventilation” mode activated manually in dash panel insert) regardless of the measured/set temperatures.

070Shutoff characteristics for auxiliary heating/auxiliary ventilation mode
t  If the engine is started with auxiliary heating/auxiliary ventilation activated and switched off again before the end of the set auxiliary heating/auxiliary ventilation operating time:
–  In setting “0”, auxiliary heating/auxiliary ventilation remains in operation until the set operating time has elapsed or until manually shut off (e.g. if the engine is switched off at a level crossing, the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- does not transmit deactivation information via the convenience data bus system)
–  In setting “1”, auxiliary heating/auxiliary ventilation is deactivated on switching off the engine (e.g. if the vehicle is only driven short distances, the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- transmits deactivation information via the convenience data bus system).
→ Chapter

  Note
t  Adaption “1” in adaption channel “07” is only to be entered for operating and display units, Climatronic control unit -J255- up to software version “XX13” if auxiliary heating/auxiliary ventilation is activated by way of remote control. As the ignition must be switched on for activation of the auxiliary heating/auxiliary ventilation “Immediate on” function, activation is cancelled again on switching off the ignition with these operating and display units, Climatronic control unit -J255-. As of software version “XX14”, the function is then as described above.
t  The auxiliary heating/auxiliary ventilation shutoff characteristics can also be set in the control unit in dash panel insert -J285- and the auxiliary heater control unit -J364-. → Auxiliary heating; Rep. Gr.01 (adaption of auxiliary heater).
