Complete filling of fuel pipe
Complete filling of fuel pipe
Test requirements satisfied → Chapter and test preparation performed → Chapter
  Note
t  Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A- connected, for example by way of diagnostic wire -VAS 5051/5A- and K-wire adapter -VAS 6017B- (or K-wire adapter -VAS 6017A-), to the 16-pin diagnostic socket in the vehicle
t  On vehicles as of chassis number “400000” in Model Year 2005 (Saloon and Avant; gradual introduction for the Cabrio in week 46/04 with no prior specification of any particular chassis number → Parts List) and depending on the vehicle equipment, certain control units will no longer be connected to the K / L-wire of the 16-pin diagnostic socket in the vehicle (e.g. engine control unit -J623-, automatic gearbox control unit -J217- and airbag control unit -J234-) → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations. These control units use “CAN signal wires” to exchange information for example with the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-. As the K-wire adapter -VAS 6017A- is not provided with these connections, the K-wire adapter -VAS 6017B- is required for the self-diagnosis of these control units.
t  Ignition off
–  On display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A- use address word “18” to select auxiliary heater control unit -J364- → Chapter.

Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  Code entered for this control unit is displayed in zone -2- (correct if necessary → Chapter).
–  Select function “10 - Adaption”.
  A87-0314
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  Prompt for entering channel number appears in display zone -1-.
t  Input keypad appears in display zone -2-.
–  Use input keypad in display zone -2- to enter “08” for “channel 08” and confirm by touching Q key.
  Note
There are various possible causes if display zone -1- indicates “Function unknown or cannot be implemented at present” → Chapter.
  A87-0318
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  Display zone -1- indicates “Channel 08 reading and testing”.
t  There is no display in area -2- at present.
t  A bar appears in area -3- (not to be used for this application).
  Note
t  “0” is displayed as original value at bar.
t  In the case of replacement auxiliary heater control units -J364- for which basic setting has yet to be performed in display group “77”, a different value, e.g. “200” may also be displayed.
–  Touch key -4- (for entry via keypad).
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  Display zone -1- indicates “Enter adaption value: 0....XXXXX”.
t  Input keypad appears in display zone -2-.
–  Use input keypad in display zone -2- to enter “30” as time for initial actuation of metering pump -V54-.
  Note
t  Display zone -2- is used to enter metering pump -V54- actuation time in seconds. When the “Basic setting” function, display group “77” is next selected, the metering pump is actuated for this period.
t  Initial actuation of the metering pump is designed to completely fill the fuel pipe with fuel and 30 seconds are thus normally sufficient.
t  In the “Basic setting” function, display group “77”, the metering pump -V54- is actuated at a frequency of 5 Hertz (5 pulses per second). The delivery rate set in the metering pump is approx. 0.03 ml per stroke (0.03/1000 litre).
t  There are various possible causes if display zone -1- indicates “Function unknown or cannot be implemented at present” → Chapter.
t  Area -2- displays the code entered depending on the version of the auxiliary heater control unit -J364-.
–  Confirm entry by touching Q key.
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  New value for this adaption channel appears in area -2-.
t  Code number entered appears above bar in area -3-.
–  Store entry by touching key -5-.
  A82-0237
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  Display zone -1- indicates “Store channel 08”.
t  New value for this adaption channel appears in area -2-.
t  Original and new code number for this adaption channel appear in area -3-.
–  Adopt and store entry by touching key -4-.
t  Display zone -1- indicates “Store channel X, value 0.....XXXX stored”.
  Note
t  With certain auxiliary heater control units -J364-, rounding errors on conversion following entry of the coded display value, e.g. “30” may cause the following display to appear “Note: Value to be stored 30, value actually stored 29”. If this display appears, enter e.g. “31” instead of “30” if necessary to store the exact value and confirm display by touching OK key.
t  Code numbers entered which are not within specified limits are displayed but not implemented.
t  If code number entered is too high or too low, display is automatically reset (to lowest or highest value still permitted).
–  Touch key (to return to selection program).
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
–  Select function “04 - Basic setting”.
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  Prompt for entering display group appears in display zone -1-.
t  Input keypad appears in display zone -2-.
–  Use input keypad in display zone -2- to enter “077” for display group number “77” and confirm by touching “Q” key.
  A82-0238
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  Display zone -1- indicates function “Display group 077, system in basic setting”.
t  Area -2- indicates “Pipe filling” function.
The metering pump -V54- is actuated at a fixed clock frequency.
  Note
t  The metering pump -V54- is then actuated for 30 seconds at 5 Hertz (5 pulses per second) and the fuel pipe is completely filled with fuel.
t  Once the “Pipe filling” function has been started, it cannot be aborted and is implemented in full by the control unit regardless of any entries made via the tester.
t  There are various possible causes if display zone -1- indicates “Function unknown or cannot be implemented at present” → Chapter.
–  Wait until display in area -2- changes from “Pipe filling” to “End” (with certain control units, “Function unknown or cannot be implemented at present” is displayed on completion of actuation).
  A82-0236
–  Drain and re-attach graduated beaker -B-.
–  Terminate self-diagnosis.
  Note
t  The following is stored in the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- to stop too much fuel being conveyed into the auxiliary heater:
t  The function “Basic setting”, display group “77” can only be implemented once during self-diagnosis (self-diagnosis must be terminated and re-started).
t  Once the function “Basic setting”, display group “77” has been implemented, the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- resets the value entered in adaption channel “08” to “0” (metering pump -V54- actuation time in function “Basic setting”, display group “77”).
