Adaption procedure
Adaption procedure
–  With the ignition switched off, connect up vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A- with diagnostic wire -VAS 5051/5A- and K-wire adapter -VAS 6017B- (or K-wire adapter -VAS 6017A-) to the 16-pin diagnostic socket in the vehicle and use address word “18” to select the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- → Chapter, → Chapter and → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
   
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  Code entered for this control unit is displayed in zone -2- (correct if necessary → Chapter).
–  Interrogate fault memory → Chapter and eliminate any faults displayed.
–  Select function “10 - Adaption”.

Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  Prompt for entering channel number appears in display zone -1-.
t  Input keypad appears in display zone -2-.
–  Use input keypad to enter desired channel number in display zone -2- and confirm by touching Q key.
t  Adaption channel “03”
–  Adaption value “01” or “1” No deactivation of auxiliary heater after engine operation
–  Adaption value “02” or “2” Deactivation of auxiliary heater after engine operation
t  Adaption channel “05”
–  Adaption value “01” or “1” Adaption of auxiliary heater control unit -J364- for vehicle with diesel engine
–  Adaption value “02” or “2” Adaption of auxiliary heater control unit -J364- for vehicle with petrol engine
t  Adaption channel “06”
–  Adaption value “00” or “0” Supplementary heater is not available for vehicles with petrol engine (on vehicles with diesel engine, supplementary heater cannot be omitted).
–  Adaption value “01” or “1” Supplementary heater on request for vehicles with petrol engine as well (always provided on vehicles with diesel engine)
t  Adaption channel “87”
–  This adaption channel is disabled and is only to be released and altered for certain problems and specific vehicles → Anchor.
  Note
t  For further information on these adaption channels, refer to → Chapter
t  Possible causes if display zone -1- indicates “Function unknown or cannot be implemented at present”:
t  Selection of adaption channel not intended for service use (check entry)
t  Fault on convenience data bus system
  A87-0318
t  If display zone -1- indicates “Disabled”, adaption function is currently not available due to having been incorrectly implemented several times.
t  Wait for completion of disable time.
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  Display zone -1- indicates “Channel XX reading and testing”.
t  There is no display in area -2- at present.
t  A bar appears in area -3- (not to be used for this application).
–  Touch key -4- (for entry via keypad).
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  Display zone -1- indicates “Enter adaption value: 0....XXXXX”.
t  Input keypad appears in display zone -2-.
–  Use input keypad to enter the desired value for this adaption channel in the display zone (List of available adaption channels) → Chapter for re-adaption of the auxiliary heater control unit -J364-.
  Note
t  Code numbers entered via keypad which are not within specified limits are displayed but not implemented.
t  If keypad is used to enter a code number which is too high or too low, display returns automatically to initial value or to lowest/highest permissible value.
t  Code number entered appears in area -2-.
–  Confirm entry by touching Q key.
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  New value for this adaption channel appears in area -2-.
t  Code number entered appears above bar in area -3-.
–  Store entry by touching key -5-.

Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  Display zone -1- indicates “Store channel XX”.
t  New value for this adaption channel appears in area -2-.
t  Original and new code number for this adaption channel appear in area -3-.
–  Adopt and store entry by touching key -4-.
t  Display zone -1- indicates “Store channel X, value 0.....XXXX stored”.
  Note
t  Code numbers entered which are not within specified limits are displayed but not implemented.
t  If code number entered is too high or too low, display is automatically reset.
t  Touch key to return to selection program.
–  Terminate self-diagnosis → Chapter.
–  Check function of new adaption entered.
