Adaption procedure
Adaption procedure
–  Interrogate fault memory of auxiliary heater control unit -J364- → Chapter and rectify any other faults displayed (fault “Control unit incorrect chassis number” cannot be erased at this stage).
–  Switch on ignition.
–  Check and if necessary correct encoding of auxiliary heater control unit -J364- → Chapter.
   
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
–  Select function “10 - Adaption”.

Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  Prompt for entering channel number appears in display zone -1-.
t  Input keypad appears in display zone -2-.
–  Use input keypad in display zone -2- to enter “81” for channel “81” and confirm by touching Q key.
  Note
t  Possible causes if display zone -1- indicates “Function unknown or cannot be implemented at present”:
t  Control unit adaption not performed as specified and in full
t  Fault on convenience data bus system
  A87-0318
t  If display zone -1- indicates “Disabled” and disable time (e.g. “10” for 10 minutes), the adaption function is currently not available due to having been incorrectly implemented several times.
t  Wait for completion of disable time.
t  If zone -1- displays “Bus n. OK”, the ignition may have been switched off or there is a fault in the convenience data bus system or the control unit in dash panel insert -J285-.
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  Display zone -1- indicates “Channel 81 reading and testing”.
t  Display in area -2- is “PIN ?”.
t  A bar appears in area -3- (not to be used for this application).
–  Touch key -4- (for entry via keypad).
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  Display zone -1- indicates “Enter adaption value: 0....XXXXX”.
t  Input keypad appears in display zone -2-.
–  Use input keypad in display zone -2- to enter PIN for re-adaption of auxiliary heater control unit -J364-.
PIN: 26467
t  PIN entered appears in area -2-.
–  Confirm entry by touching Q key.
  Note
Depending on the version of the auxiliary heater control unit -J364-, “Wait” may now briefly appear on the display of the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-.
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  The PIN entered appears above the bar in area -3-.
–  Store entry by touching key -5-.

Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  Display zone -1- indicates “Store channel 81”.
t  Area -3- displays the original PIN or “0” and the new PIN.
–  Adopt and store entry by touching key -4-.
t  Display zone -1- indicates “Store channel 1, value 1 stored”.
  Note
t  Touch key to return to selection program.
t  The chassis number stored in the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- is erased by entering the PIN. The auxiliary heater control unit -J364- is then ready to adopt the chassis number transmitted by the control unit in dash panel insert -J285- via the convenience data bus system.
–  Terminate self-diagnosis → Chapter and switch off ignition.
–  Start engine.
–  Interrogate fault memory of auxiliary heater control unit -J364- → Chapter and erase the faults displayed → Chapter.
The fault “Control unit incorrect chassis number” is no longer displayed or can now be erased (if adaption has been performed correctly).
–  Check the chassis number now stored in the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- → Chapter (Reading measured value block, display group “081”).
