Display group “006”
Display group “006”
Current auxiliary heater operating status and mode and actuation of auxiliary heater as supplementary heater

Display zoneDisplay
1Current auxiliary heater operating status
t  Display = Off
–  No activation signal being applied
t  Display = Start
–  Heater start-up in progress
–  The auxiliary heater control unit -J364- is actuated in order to activate the circulation pump -V55- (the auxiliary heater is not started; refer also to display zone “2”)
t  Display = Full load
–  The heater is in full load operation (coolant temperature in heater less than 84 °C).
t  Display = Part load
–  The heater is in control mode (part load operation; coolant temperature in heater between 71 °C and 90 °C).
t  Display = Run-on
–  The heater has been switched off or the coolant temperature has exceeded 91 °C (heater switches to control interval) and the heater is in run-on mode.
t  Display = Control interval
–  The heater is in the control interval (coolant temperature had exceeded 91 °C and is still above 71 °C).
t  Display = Fault
–  The heater has been switched off. A fault affecting auxiliary heater operation has occurred (read out fault memory and check display in zone “3” of display group “005”).

  Note
t  If the auxiliary heater is activated by way of the “Basic setting” function, it remains in full load operation up to a coolant temperature of 110° C. Starting from the control interval is possible. The operating time is limited to max. 10 minutes.
t  The stated temperatures are approximate values. Depending on the version of the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- the switching points may also be at slightly lower or higher temperatures.

2Current or last auxiliary heater operating mode
t  Display = Supplementary heating
–  An activation signal for operation of the auxiliary heater as supplementary heater is being applied by the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- of the air conditioner/heater or the last activation signal applied was for such operation (refer to zone “4” of display group “005”).
t  Display = Heating
–  An activation signal for operation of the auxiliary heater as auxiliary heater is being applied by the control unit in dash panel insert -J285- or the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- of the air conditioner/heater or the last activation signal applied was for such operation (refer to zone “3” and “4” of display group “005”).
t  Display = Pump on
–  All prerequisites for the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- to activate the circulation pump -V55- have been fulfilled.
–  A signal is being applied by the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- of the air conditioner/heater for the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- to activate the circulation pump -V55-.
–  The circulation pump -V55- is actuated by the auxiliary heater control unit -J364-.
–  This function is currently available for all engine versions requiring activation of the circulation pump -V55- at low ambient temperatures and in the low engine speed range to enhance the coolant flow through the heat exchanger of the air conditioner/heater on account of the coolant circuit design → Chapter.

  Note
t  Actuation of the circulation pump -V55- increases the flow of coolant through the heat exchanger of the air conditioner/heater at low engine speeds and thus improves heat output.
t  The auxiliary heater control unit -J364- activates the circulation pump -V55- on receiving the following information via the convenience data bus system: Ignition on and engine running, ambient temperature less than 20 °C, engine speed less than 2000 rpm, operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- switched on (OFF button not pressed) and at least one of the two temperature flaps not set to “cold” stop.
t  The circulation pump -V55- is switched on as soon as all activation conditions are fulfilled. To stop the circulation pump being constantly switched on and off, it remains activated for at least 30 s even if - for example in the event of rapid changes in vehicle speed - a request is only applied for several seconds (e.g. on accelerating after standing at traffic lights).
t  Depending on the version of the auxiliary heater control unit -J364-, “Off” is displayed or there is no display in this zone with certain control units when the auxiliary heater is switched off.

3Activation and deactivation conditions for the “Supplementary heating” function of the auxiliary heater
(need only be heeded for vehicles with petrol engine if the “Supplementary heating” function has been set by way of the “Adaption” function in adaption channel “06” → Chapter).
t  Display = XXXXXX
–  Explanatory notes → Chapter (Table)
–  The auxiliary heater only operates as supplementary heater with display “111111” (all activation conditions must be fulfilled).
t  Examples:
–  Display 111110 = The auxiliary heater does not operate as supplementary heater, as one activation condition is not fulfilled (ambient temperature too high).
–  Display 111111 = All activation conditions are fulfilled, the auxiliary heater is activated as supplementary heater (on vehicles with diesel engine).
4Display zone not used

  Note
t  The ambient temperature, the coolant temperature, the engine speed and the message “Ignition on” are transmitted by the control unit in dash panel insert -J285-.
t  On vehicles with petrol engine, the auxiliary heater is only switched on as supplementary heater with the display “111111” if this function has been activated in adaption channel “06” of the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- → Chapter.
t  The request for additional heat output is calculated and transmitted by the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- of the air conditioner/heater. → Air conditioning; Rep. Gr.01 and → Heating; Rep. Gr.01.
