Auxiliary heater operating time/remaining operating time and auxiliary heater switching signals transmitted via convenience data bus

Display zoneDisplay
1Remaining auxiliary heater operating time until deactivation for this heating period
l  Display = 0
–  Auxiliary heater switched off
l  Display = 3870 ..... 1 sec.
–  Deactivation of auxiliary heater by auxiliary heater control unit -J364- in so many seconds
2Operating time of auxiliary heater (including as supplementary heater) for this heating period since activation
l  Display = 0
–  Auxiliary heater switched off
l  Display = 1 ..... 3870 sec.
–  Auxiliary heater activated by auxiliary heater control unit -J364- so many seconds ago

  Note
t  The auxiliary heater operating time is calculated on the basis of the setting in the driver information system (DIS) by the control unit in dash panel insert -J285-. The adjustable ON time (currently 15....60 min (900....3600 sec.)) is transmitted by way of the convenience data bus system to the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- together with the activation signal. At present, the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- adds a further approx. 270 sec. to the operating time transmitted (160 to 400 sec. depending on version of auxiliary heater control unit -J364-) as a safety margin (e.g. display 1770 sec. with setting of 25 min. in DIS).
t  The auxiliary heating/auxiliary ventilation time implemented via the “Immediate on” function or the auxiliary heater remote control is determined by the setting in the dash panel insert. At present, this function is always governed by the time set in “Timer 1” even if timer “2” or “3” is currently displayed in the dash panel insert → Chapter.
t  The auxiliary heater is switched on and off by the control unit in dash panel insert -J285-. If the control unit in dash panel insert -J285- transmits an auxiliary heater activation signal for more than 3600 sec., the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- switches off the auxiliary heater on completion of the safety margin (160 to 400 sec. depending on version of auxiliary heater control unit -J364-).
t  The maximum operating time entered in the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- and thus permissible of 3870 sec. at present may (depending on version of auxiliary heater control unit -J364-) also be slightly longer or shorter.
t  If the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- transmits a signal for activation of the auxiliary heater as supplementary heater, there is no operating time limit (the auxiliary heater operates as supplementary heater for as long as an activation signal is transmitted). However, in view of the fact that, because of heating of the engine coolant, the activation conditions for the supplementary heater are only maintained over a lengthy period at very low ambient temperatures, supplementary heating will not normally be requested for longer than one hour.

Display zoneDisplay
3Auxiliary heater switching signals (status “1”)
l  Display = XXXXXXX
–  Explanatory notes → Chapter

Examples:
000000 = No fault present and no auxiliary heater activation signal being applied
000010 = No fault present Auxiliary heater activation signal being applied by control unit in dash panel insert -J285-
4Auxiliary heater switching signals (status “2”)
l  Display = XXXXX
–  Explanatory notes → Chapter

Example:
00000 = No auxiliary heater activation or deactivation signal being applied

  Note
t  The data displayed in zones “3” and “4” are received from the other control units or transmitted to these by way of the convenience data bus system.
t  If display zone “4” indicates the “Power saving” function (transportation mode), check adaption of control unit in dash panel insert -J285- (currently adaption channel “99”). → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.01 and → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
