Starting reading measured value block –  With the ignition switched off, connect up vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A- with diagnostic wire -VAS 5051/5A- and K-wire adapter -VAS 6017B- (or K-wire adapter -VAS 6017A-) to the 16-pin diagnostic socket in the vehicle and use address word “18” to select the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- → Chapter, → Chapter and → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.

Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-: –  Interrogate fault memory and eliminate any faults displayed. –  Check and if necessary correct encoding of auxiliary heater. –  Erase fault memory if necessary.   Note t  Auxiliary heater may be on or off or may be switched on or off during “Reading measured value block” function depending on information required. t  If measured values are to be read out which are only output by other control units with the engine running or the ignition on, the engine may also be started and the ignition may be on or off or switched on or off. t  If operation of an auxiliary heater with no circulation pump -V55- attached is to be checked, the engine must be started (the version as supplementary heater is only to be introduced at a later date). Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-: –  Interrogate fault memory. –  Select function “08 - Reading measured value block”.

Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-: t  Prompt for entering display group appears in display zone -1-. t  Input keypad appears in display zone -2-. –  Use input keypad in display zone -2- to enter the desired display group (e.g. “001” or “01” for display group number “001”) and confirm by touching Q key.

Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-: t  Display group selected appears in zone -1-. t  The values for the four display zones appear in zone -2-: –  Value for display zone “1” appears on first line. –  Values for respective display zones appear on second, third and fourth lines. –  Line remains blank if a display zone is not used. t  Touching the keys -3- permits switching to a different display group. t  Touching the keys -4- permits switching to a different function (e.g. from “Reading measured value block” to “Basic setting” and back again). –  Switch on the auxiliary heater by way of the control unit in dash panel insert -J285-, the auxiliary heater remote control or the “Basic setting” function (if auxiliary heater operation is to be checked). –  Enter desired display group number.   Note t  In the event of problems with the auxiliary heater, read out the measured value blocks with the auxiliary heater switched off.

t  If operation of an auxiliary heater activated by way of the “Basic setting” function is to be observed, touch keys -3- to switch from “Basic setting” function to “Reading measured value block” function. Touch key -4- to return to “Basic setting” function.

t  This display may also appear depending on version of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-. Heed the following: t  Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A- remains on switching from “Basic setting” function to “Reading measured value block” function and vice versa in display group indicated in zone -6-. This may lead to display zone -1- indicating “Function unknown or cannot be implemented at present” following switching. t  Press ← key (“Return” arrow key).

t  Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-: t  Use input keypad to enter desired display group number in display zone -2- and confirm by touching Q key.
