Notes:

• ◆ "Adaption" function is to be implemented for operating and display units for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87 (heating) if fault "Control unit/incorrect chassis number" is displayed.
• ◆ New replacement operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87 (heating) is supplied without chassis number. When ignition is first switched on following installation, chassis number transmitted via convenience data bus is read into -E87 (heating) and stored (anti-theft protection).
• ◆ If -E87 (heating) is transferred to another vehicle, for example, transmitted and stored chassis numbers no longer coincide and fault "Control unit/incorrect chassis number" is stored in -E87 (heating). Entering PIN in adaption function erases chassis number stored in operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87 (heating).
• ◆ Operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87 (heating) can only be adapted by entering appropriate PIN.

Requirements

• ◆ Battery fully charged
• ◆ Check that encoding in control unit with display in dash panel insert -J285 corresponds to vehicle model and equipment

• ◆ Check chassis number; correct chassis number corresponding to vehicle must be stored in control unit with display in dash panel insert -J285

Performing adaption

• ‒ Interrogate fault memory of operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87 (heating) and eliminate any other faults displayed (fault "Control unit/incorrect chassis number" cannot now be erased).
• ‒ Check encoding of operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87 (heating) for vehicle-specific optional extras and correct if necessary => Page 01-107.

→ Indicated on display of VAS 5051:

• ‒ Select function ""10 - Adaption".

→ Indicated on display of VAS 5051:

• ◆ Prompt for entering channel number appears in display zone -1-.
• ◆ Input keypad appears in display zone -2-.

• ‒ Use input keypad in display zone -2- to enter "81" for "channel 81" and confirm entry by touching "Q key".

Note:

• ◆ → If "Function unknown or cannot be implemented at present" appears in display zone -1-, this may be due to the following:

• ‒ Control unit adaption neither as specified nor complete
• ‒ Fault in convenience data bus

• ◆ → If "Disabled" and disable time (e.g. "10" for 10 minutes) appears in display zone -1-, adaption function is currently not available as it has already been implemented incorrectly several times.

• ‒ Wait for disable time to elapse.

→ Indicated on display of VAS 5051:

• ◆ Display zone -1- shows "Channel 81 reading and testing".
• ◆ Area -2- shows "Pin?".
• ◆ A bar appears in area -3- (not to be used for this application).

• ‒ Touch button -4- (for entry via keypad).

→ Indicated on display of VAS 5051:

• ◆ Display zone -1- shows "Enter adaption value: 0....XXXXX".
• ◆ Input keypad appears in display zone -2-.

• ‒ Use input keypad in display zone -2- to enter PIN for re-adaption of operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87 (heating).

• ◆ → PIN entered is displayed in area -2-.

• ‒ Confirm entry by touching "Q key".

→ Indicated on display of VAS 5051:

• ◆ PIN entered appears above bar in area -3-.
• ◆ Store entry by touching key -5-.

→ Indicated on display of VAS 5051:

• ◆ Display zone -1- shows "Store channel 81".
• ◆ Original and new PIN appear in area -3-.

• ‒ Adopt and store entry by touching key -4-.

• ◆ Display zone -1- shows "Store channel 81, value 26467 stored".

Notes:

• ◆ Return to selection program by touching "arrow" key.
• ◆ Entering PIN erases chassis number stored in operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87 (heating). -E87 (heating) is now in a position to adopt chassis number transmitted via convenience data bus by control unit in dash panel insert.

• ‒ Terminate self-diagnosis => Page 01-106 and switch off ignition.
• ‒ Start engine.
• ‒ Interrogate fault memory of operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87 (heating) => Page 01-104.

Fault "Control unit/incorrect chassis number" is no longer displayed/can now be erased (if adaption has been correctly performed).

• ‒ Check chassis number now stored in operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87 (heating) => Page 01-177 ("Reading measured value block" function, display group 081).
