Special tools, testers and other items required

• ◆ Test box V.A.G 1598 A and appropriate adapter cables V.A.G 1598/11 and V.A.G 1598/12
• ◆ Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 with test leads VAS 5051/7
• ◆ Adapter set V.A.G 1594 A

• ‒ Switch off ignition.
• ‒ Remove operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic
  -E87 (heating) .
• ‒ → Connect test box V.A.G 1598 A with appropriate adapter cable V.A.G 1598/11 to connector -C- and -E87 (heating) => Page 01-232.
• ‒ Connect up adapter cable V.A.G 1598/12 between connector -D- and -E87 (heating). Use second test box V.A.G 1598 A or use suitable test lead from V.A.G 1594 A to connect measuring instrument directly to V.A.G 1598/12 => Page 01-232.

Note:

Contact assignments of connector -C- with adapter cable V.A.G 1598/11 and connector -D- with adapter cable V.A.G 1598/12 are identical to socket assignment on test box V.A.G 1598 A.

• ‒ Start engine.

Note:

All connectors at -E87 (heating) must be attached.

• ‒ → Measure voltage between contact 8 in connector -C- (from heated windscreen control unit -J505) and contact 16 in connector -D- (earth connection).
• ‒ Specification: approx. battery voltage

Notes:

• ◆ If voltage less than 5V is measured, control unit -J505 is not in a position to switch on heated windscreen or there is a short to earth in connection to -J505 => Page 01-283.

• ◆ If voltage between 5 V and 8 V is measured, -E87 (heating) has actuated control unit -J505 and this has switched on heated windscreen.
