Note:

• ◆ If a new operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic
  -E87(heating) has been fitted and basic setting not performed following installation, fault "Basic setting not performed" is displayed in fault memory.
• ◆ If the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87 (heating) automatically switches to "Off" mode after switching on ignition and if only "Def" mode can be set with ignition on (no other settings possible), ignition has been switched on using an unreleased key for example or control unit in dash panel insert is not transmitting key number via convenience data bus.

• ‒ With ignition off, connect up vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 with diagnostic cable VAS 5051/1 to 16-pin diagnostic socket in vehicle and select electronic air conditioner/heater with "address word" 08 .

→ Indicated on display of V.A.S 5051:

• ‒ Select function "02 - Interrogating fault memory".

→ Indicated on display of V.A.S 5051:

• ◆ Number of stored faults appears in display zone -1-.
• ◆ Fault code, fault location and type of faults stored appear in display zone -2-.

Notes:

• ◆ Return to selection program by touching ← key.

• ◆ If no faults are found and complaints have been received about heating system (e.g. inadequate heat output or no fresh-air blower speed regulation):
• ‒ 1. Read measured value block (function 08) .
• ‒ 2. Perform final control diagnosis (function 03)=> Page 01-85.
• ‒ 3. Check heat output => Page 80-69.
• ◆ If fault(s) detected:
• ‒ 1. Eliminate fault.
• ‒ 2. Interrogate fault memory (function 02).
• ‒ 3. Erase fault memory (function 05).
• ‒ 4. Check encoding of -E87 (heating)/dash panel insert => Page 01-107.
• ‒ 5. Perform basic setting (function 04).

• ‒ 6. Interrogate fault memory (function 02) and if necessary eliminate faults displayed, erase fault memory (function 05) and repeat procedure.
• ‒ 7. End output (function 06).

→ Indicated on display of V.A.S 5051:

• ‒ End output (function 06) .
• ‒ Switch off ignition and unplug diagnostic connector.
