Removing and installing centre differential housing with gearbox installed Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Drip tray -V.A.G 1306-

Removing   Note The flexible pipe connection (de-coupling element) in the front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10° - otherwise it can be damaged. –  Disconnect exhaust system at clamps -arrows-. –  Disengage rear section of exhaust system at rubber mountings and remove.   Note A second mechanic is required for removing the rear section of the exhaust system.

–  Unbolt heat shield for propshaft -arrows-.

–  Remove heat shield -1- for exhaust system below selector mechanism -arrows-.

–  Remove bolts -arrows- at gearbox/propshaft flange. –  Slide propshaft together towards rear final drive. The constant velocity joints can be moved axially. –  Tie up propshaft to side. –  Place drip tray -V.A.G 1306- under gearbox. –  Drain off gear oil.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- and detach centre differential housing. Dismantling and assembling centre differential housing → Servicing 6-speed manual gearbox 0A3, four-wheel drive; Rep. Gr.34 Installing Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following:   Note t  Bolt propshaft onto gearbox → Rear final drive 01R; Rep. Gr.39 or → Rear final drive 0AR; Rep. Gr.39. t  Always renew O-rings, gaskets and self-locking nuts. –  Install centre differential housing and tighten bolts -arrows-. Tightening torque → Item –  Fill up with gear oil and check gear oil level → Chapter. –  Install exhaust system and perform stress-free alignment → Rep. Gr.26. Tightening torques
