t  Used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782-
t  Safety goggles

Draining gear oil
  Note
t  General repair instructions → Chapter.
t  Observe rules for cleanliness when working on automatic gearbox → Chapter.
–  Place used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782- below gearbox.
  WARNING
Wear safety goggles.
–  Remove oil drain plug -arrow A- and drain gear oil.
  Note
The oil drain plug with seal must be renewed.
–  Tighten new drain plug.
  Note
t  Distinguish between the following cases when filling up with gear oil:
t  A - Transfer box has not been removed.
t  B - Transfer box has been removed.

A – Transfer box has not been removed
  Note
Detach or remove parts of the exhaust system as required if the screw plug for the oil filler hole is not easily accessible → Rep. Gr.26.
–  Remove plug from oil filler hole -arrow B-.
–  Fill up gear oil until it reaches bottom lip of oil filler hole. Specification and quantity → Chapter.
–  Re-install used screw plug.
  Note
If it was necessary to slacken or remove the exhaust system it must be attached or installed for the road test and then removed and installed again for the subsequent oil level check.
–  Road-test vehicle for 15 minutes.
  Note
During the road test the gear oil will enter the output cup and the centre differential; the oil level in the transfer box housing will drop accordingly.
–  Fill up gear oil in transfer box → Chapter
  A39-0092
B – Transfer box has been removed and dismantled
–  Put 200 ml of gear oil into drive cup.
–  Assemble and install transfer box → Servicing automatic gearbox 01V, front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive; Rep. Gr.39.
–  Remove plug from oil filler hole -arrow B-.
–  Put 600 ml of gear oil into transfer box housing.
  Note
The screw plug with seal must be renewed.
–  Install new screw plug for oil filler hole.
  Note
The level does not need to be re-checked after this step.
