Removing and installing selector mechanism on vehicles with vehicle ID No. from 8E_8A 002700 onwards Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Socket and key -T40031- Removing –  Remove selector lever handle → Chapter.

–  Remove selector mechanism cover -1- → Chapter. –  Remove air conditioning control console → Air conditioning; Rep. Gr.87. –  Remove ashtray from centre console → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.68. –  Unplug electrical connector at selector lever lock solenoid -N110-.

–  Lift retaining tab -A- and pull off locking cable in direction of -arrow-.

–  Shift selector lever to position “D”. –  Insert socket and key -T40031- through access hole in selector mechanism and loosen clamping bolt at rear of selector lever cable approx. 1 turn.   Note t  Only loosen clamping bolt approx. one turn - do not remove. t  Clamping bolt can only be accessed with selector lever in position “D”. t  With clamping bolt loosened, selector lever must remain in position “D”.

–  Open quick-release fasteners -2- and -3- and remove noise insulation (rear).

–  Remove tunnel braces → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. Gr.66.   Note

The flexible pipe connection (de-coupling element) on the front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10° – otherwise it can be damaged. –  Disconnect exhaust system at clamps -arrows-. –  Remove heat shield under selector mechanism → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.66

–  Pull off retaining clip -1- for selector lever cable from the side. –  Pull selector lever cable -2- out of selector mechanism.   Note Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

–  Remove nuts -arrows-.   Note t  The assistance of a second mechanic is required to detach the selector mechanism from below. t  If retaining clips -1- or -2- break off during removal, the selector mechanism must be renewed. Any parts which break off and drop into the selector mechanism will block the selector mechanism. –  Press retaining clips -1- and -2- inwards, while pushing selector mechanism downwards. Installing Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following: l  Tightening torques → Chapter –  Install selector lever cable and adjust → Chapter „Exploded view - selector lever cable and locking cable on vehicles with vehicle ID No. from 8E_8A 002700 onwards“. –  Install locking cable → Chapter „Removing and installing locking cable on vehicles with vehicle ID No. from 8E_8A 002700 onwards“. –  Adjust locking cable → Chapter „Adjusting locking cable on vehicles with vehicle ID No. from 8E_8A 002700 onwards“. –  Install exhaust system and align it so it is stress-free → Rep. Gr.26. –  Check selector mechanism → Chapter.
